Seven men were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and other related offences in Katsina.
7 Human Traffickers Arrested in Katsina
The
Nigeria Immigration Service, Katsina State Command, reports seven
suspects, from 19 to 29 years old, caught up by the patrol team on
Kongolam axis following a tip off.
The information was made
availbale to newsmen by the NIS Comptroller, Mr Emmanuel Ogbumuo, in
Katsina on Monday. The criminals' primary goal was to get to Europe,
their route laid throught Agadez, Niger Republic and then to Libya.
According
to the official statement, one of the suspects possessed fake ECOWAS
travel certificates, while the others had no travel documents at all.
Later National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and Other
related Matters, NAPTIP, would investigate the case.
Mr Ogbumuo
once again stressed out NIS determination to increase the effectiveness
of eradication of trafficking in persons and illegal immigrants despite
the nature of Nigerian border.
