The argument has taken another dimension. It is no longer whether
wearing tattoo is moral or not. The debate is now about where to put it.
While some people, for the reasons best known to them, wear tattoos on
their arms, ankles, chests or any other visible parts, others wear
theirs on parts of their bodies that are not visible. NIMOTA ADELEYE
went to town and sought opinions of people on why they wear tattoos and
which part of their bodies they will love to be put their tattoos.
Judging by its prominence and wide acceptance among youths worldwide,
it is incorrect to say tattoos or the act of tattoing one’s body is a
passing fad. In fact, the act has refused to die, as people of different
clime and tongue have held tightly to the culture of engraving on their
body inscriptions and drawings to create some impressions.
In some culture, it is a rite of passage, while to some it is
inscribed as a form of non-verbal communication that conveys the mind of
the wearer about his/her religious belief, or to make sex appeal.
In some cultures, too, it is a mark of royalty and authority, while
in some places it is just for fashion, and worn on different parts of
the body for different reasons.
Can the wearing of tattoos on the breasts of a lady or on her chest
have an undisclosed message? If a man wears tattoo on his arm or
shoulder, what could be the motive? Is it just for fashion or a means to
create an impression about the wearer’s beauty? Besides, what part of
the body is best suitable or fashionable to carry this “imprint” of
fashion?

The best place to draw a tattoo is
under the arm so that it can be hidden, because there are times you need
to look responsible; you shouldn’t go everywhere with your tattoo. It
could create bad impression about you.
Soodiq Moturayo
If I am to wear a tattoo, I
would like to have it on my arm, because that is the easiest way to let
people know I have tattoo. And to me, tattoo is fashionable, when you
have it in different colours.
But I don’t advise people, especially ladies, to have tattoos on their chests or breasts.
Ogundare Aderonke
I do not think tattoo is
fashionable. I don’t see it enhancing your beauty or making yourself
look nice. If it must be done at all, it must be in a hidden place,
maybe on one’s back or arm.
Emmanuel Oluwaseyi
To me, tattoo is not ideal for
a good Christian, but since things have really changed and tattoo has
become a part of fashion, I believe it should be in a hidden place,
where people would not easily detect it. It can be put on one’s lap,
especially for ladies who are fat.
Christopher Solomon
Personally,
the best place to wear a tattoo is the arm, because everybody would
see it there. I don’t believe it should be hidden, since the essence of
having tattoos on one’s body is to show it to people. So, hiding is not
sensible at all.
Oyelami Adesoji
My best opinion for those who
wish to have tattoo is to do it on their backs, because when you expose
it for people to see, even those who do not have idea why you have it
may count it as something else. They may not see it as valuable.
Bankole Olufunke
Well, I do not like tattoo
because I am a Christian and the Bible says, the body is the temple of
God. So, we have to honour God, because this body is not ours. However, I
don’t dislike those who have it. So, I prefer them to draw it on their
arm, because it is okay there. I don’t think it should be in one’s
private part. It could be dangerous and could have negative medical
implications.

My own suggestion
is that people should wear tattoos on their necks, because it is safe
and can be hidden there, depending on the dress you are putting on. If
you are putting on a round neck dress, for example, it can help to hide
it.
Akindele Moromoke
Normally, I love to have it on
my arm, that is if I wish to have it, because I see tattoo as a tool of
fashion for awareness creation. So, since I wear it for fashion, I don’t
think it should be hidden; it should rather be in a conspicuous
position for people to see and admire it. When a tattoo is
beautiful, it has the ability of drawing people to you. In fact, those
who wear it in parties always steal the show.
Kinageri Rachel
I personally support that tattoos
should be on one’s arm rather than any other part of the body, because
it seems to be more fashionable on the arm, especially when it is in
bright colours.
Ariyo Oluwole
I prefer it on the left or right
shoulder, because that is where it would easily be seen. But if you put
it in a hidden place, the essence of having it would have been lost.
Adegbite Kadijaat
To
me, I totally hate it. If I must have it, then it would be on the part
of my body where it can only be seen by my partner. Meanwhile, you don’t
have to dress in a way that you would cause confusion; everything one
does should be with moderation. We should dress moderately. That does
not mean it cannot be put on the body, but one needs to be careful. As
for me, I can’t wear it. It is against my religious belief.
Ope Olusanya
I am not a tattoo fan, but the best
place to have a tattoo is on the wall of your house, so that you can
always go back and stare at it.
Whichever part of the body it appears, tattoo has become part of
fashion, and the wearers believe that only those who are abreast of
fashion trends draw it on their bodies, irrespective of the part of the
body it appears.
